SAY Associates Q & A -Kemi Oguntoye

We spoke to our Associate, Kemi Oguntoye who specialises in the built environment to resolve operational challenges about her time at SAY and her experience in the industry.  

This is what she had to say… 

1. If you could sum up working at SAY in one sentence, what would it be? 

  • Working at SAY is rewarding.  

2. What’s your area of expertise within SAY?  

  • Collaborating with others in the built environment to pragmatically resolve operational challenges.  

3. What are some current trends you are seeing from clients approaching you?  

  • Concern about the drafting of the Building Safety Act.  
  • Supporting other actors in society to promote equality and access.  
  • Sustainably retrofitting existing stock.  

4. What initially drew you into the industry?  

  • I wanted to make a difference in communities and saw that a well-designed building and public realm had the power to connect with a community and bring people together.  

5. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given about your career and who was it from?  

“Become an expert in failure, don’t be so scared of opportunities or risks that you count yourself out.”

6. What advice would you give future generations wanting to get into the industry?  

A. Get as much work experience as you can – it’s all useful.  

B. Network widely and genuinely build your relationships with others you admire.
