SAY Property Management Q & A with Emma Darch

We spoke to Emma Darch, our associate who specialises in property management and optimising the design and delivery of large regeneration projects, tall buildings, and mixed-use developments about her time at SAY and experience in the industry.

This is what she had to say…

  • If you could sum up working at SAY in one sentence, what would it be?

Every day, I get to work with industry leading clients on world class projects that I subsequently get to revisit, proud in the knowledge that I was part of the team that helped to deliver them.

  • What’s your area of expertise within SAY?

I specialise in all aspects of estate and building management, from set up, to mobilisation through to ongoing monitoring. My expertise lies within residential lead mixed use field and large estates.

  • What are some current trends you are seeing from clients approaching you?

There is a greater appreciation for the value and positive outcomes of a properly planned mobilisation process, especially on big mixed-use developments.

Strategic Developers are also seeking more advice on the long-term stewardship of the places they are creating.

  • What initially drew you into the industry?

I originally started out in the hospitality industry and quickly realised that my interest lay in property and facilities management rather than the food and beverage side of this world.

The more involved I became in the operational management of buildings and customers’ homes, the more I knew I’d made the right decision.

  • What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given about your career and who was it from?

“You spend a huge chunk of your waking life working, so make sure you’re doing something you enjoy.”

  • What advice would you give future generations wanting to get into the industry?

Be willing to respect and embrace the less interesting aspects of a role. Learn them and do them well.

It is likely that the people you are learning from will have had to do the same thing early in their career and one day you might have to pass that knowledge on yourself.
