We spoke to Richard Lewis, our Property Consultant, who specialises in Estate Management Operations as well as working on a variety of other projects at SAY.
This is what he had to say…
1. If you could sum up working at SAY in one sentence, what would it be?
Helping our clients to solve problems, find solutions and add value to their portfolios, in a supportive, professional, and friendly, environment.
2. What’s your area of expertise within SAY?
I specialise in Estate Management Operations. I have extensive experience in managing large buildings and estates, setting up and managing service charge and finding solutions to complex problems. Since joining SAY I have been lucky enough to work on a variety of projects that have helped me refine a service that offers our clients assistance on how they manage their assets. My experience has really helped me find tailored solutions to our client’s needs.
3. What are some current trends you are seeing from clients approaching you?
Our clients are becoming far more conscious on ensuring that their service charges are being managed properly and that they have the systems and structures in place to manage the managing agent. I have seen an increase in Audit work and our assistance in helping our clients check or set up their Asset Management functions is proving very popular.
4. What initially drew you into the industry?
I have spent my entire career in Property Management. What keeps me in the sector is that I really enjoy that no two days are the same and that I am challenged to be proactive in my thinking.
5. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given about your career and who was it from?
My Dad when he said, “Never ask someone to do something you wouldn’t do yourself, never say no to training and never say no to time off!”
6. What advice would you give future generations wanting to get into the industry?
The best way to learn, is to learn by doing. Try and meet people who know more than you do and ask as many questions as you can. Don’t think that just because you don’t know now, you never will.
