Team SAY Q & A – Kiara Long

We spoke to Kiara Long, our Cladding remediation lead and consultant, who specialises in cladding remediation projects and property management.

This is what she had to say…

1.       If you could sum up working at SAY in one sentence, what would it be?

It’s a cliché, but there are no politics and everyone is looking out for each other.

2.       What’s your area of expertise within SAY?

My background was in property management, but since 2019 I have been working on multiple cladding remediation projects and am now the Cladding Remediation Lead.

3.       What are some current trends you are seeing from clients approaching you?

There seems to be quite a lot of uncertainty in the industry regarding the Building Safety Act and how the regulations will work in a real-world scenario as well as how the managing agents will need to position themselves and retrain in order to meet the requirements.

4.       What initially drew you into the industry?

I was working as a receptionist for a developer and was drafted in to help the property management team as I had some previous experience dealing with the conveyance process at a solicitors.  I really enjoyed working with the team and loved the variety of the role.

5.       What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given about your career and who was it from?

“When you go for an interview, always be respectful and polite to the receptionists.  They will always report back to the person interviewing you!”

6.       What advice would you give future generations wanting to get into the industry?

Figure out what your priorities and ethics are and find a company that matches with that.
